Oklahoma State sets school record in April with seven ideal scores

UCF football tops among state teams in APR scores

- All of Arkansas' athletic programs exceeded the multi-year benchmark score of 930 in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate for 2017-18, according to data released Wednesday.

In addition to four flawless scores, five other programs improved in year-to-year April, with men's golf (967) making the biggest improvement with a plus-seven showing. A total of 17 programs received ideal scores for the most recent years.

WVU's average April score of 985 is higher than the NCAA's overall four-year April average score of 983.

The NCAA's latest April reports are out and HBCUs once again are over represented. Scores are based on each athlete remaining enrolled in school and academically eligible.

The football team's score of 975 is well ahead of the national average of 968, while the basketball team's score of 995 is among the sports top 10 percent.

Scores can be negatively affected by athletes who drop out or transfer and are not in good academic standing.

Every Division I sports program submits data to have its Academic Progress Rate calculated each academic year.

To compete in 2019-20 postseason action, teams must achieve a 930 four-year April. The program had flawless single-year scores in the two previous reporting periods under former coach Mike Anderson. That's a four-point dip from a year ago and ranks the team last in the Big Ten.

The Razorbacks' football team recored a single-year score of 985 in the latest reporting period, just shy of its record 988 the year before.

The football program has a multiyear score of 982, which ranks second in the Big 12 and is tied for 14th among Power 5 programs.

Morris' former school, SMU, has a multi-year score of 967, which encompasses all of Morris' three seasons with the program, plus partial academic years under other head coaches. UO football increased its single-year score but both men's and women's basketball saw decreases. Both scores are up from last year's report in which the program had a single-year 957 and multi-year 954.

Oregon's men's cross country, men's tennis, women's cross country, women's golf and women's volleyball each had ideal April scores for 2017-18. Men's golf tied its highest multi-year April in program history with a 993; that high mark also was posted last year and three years ago. The program has a multi-year score of 956. "The single-year number at lower-budget schools is now 969".

Last week, it was reported that four Tennessee athletic programs earned coveted Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA after scoring in the top 10 percent of their Division I peers in this year's April release (men's cross country, women's golf, women's tennis and women's track & field).

Every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its April each academic year, like a report card.
