Star Wars Movies Being Released Starting in 2022

Disney moves 'Avatar' sequels, announces new 'Star Wars' films

Starting in 2022, those "other" films appear to be coming to fruition, though it's unclear which films are emerging first.

"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker", the final film in the original saga, will hit theaters December 20 of this year. An untitled "Star Wars" film is set for December 16 of that year. Four forthcoming Avatar films, expanding the vibrant world of Pandora, will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2021.

"We will take a pause, some time, and reset", he told Emily Chang on Bloomberg Television in April. Because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie.

First and foremost, there are EIGHT new Marvel movies incoming.

We don't need a new star was movie every year.

Though three years doesn't seem like much of a "hiatus", Lucasfilm is now forging ahead, though it has not confirmed which new trilogy will head into production. "We're looking at: What is the next decade of storytelling?" Last we heard, this was the live-action film trilogy that Disney CEO Bob Iger teased in late 2017 with Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson at the helm.

Today, Disney unveiled its up-to-date theatrical release schedule that includes all of the 20th Century Fox properties it purchased back in late March. That's been a question on everyone's mind since Solo failed to wow at the box office and Lucasfilm started announcing a long string of Star Wars-related TV projects for the upcoming Disney+ streaming app.
