EA calls Apex Legends "the fastest-growing franchise [they've] ever had" in their latest earnings call, cementing it as one of their premiere properties in the near future.
EA plans to release Apex Legends on mobile devices sometime in the future, the publisher revealed in a conference call earlier today.
Electronic Arts posted better-than-expected quarterly revenue on Tuesday, riding on the popularity of its battle royale game, Apex Legends, sending its shares up 7 percent in extended trading. If the Apex Legends arrives at the mobile platform, then it will lock horns with renowned competitors like Fortnite and PUBG, which have grown hugely on mobile than other platforms.
"We're in advanced negotiations to China and mobile", he said, referencing Respawn Entertainment's battle royale hit. In Korea, the game will be self-published by EA on Origin.
EA says, uncharacteristically, that they want to build it as something for players to use for "years to come", noting that "it is appropriate to take a cautious approach to financial modeling". "Engagement is strong, and we have big plans for the Legends and the world they compete in".
On an adjusted basis, EA's fourth-quarter revenue was $1.36 billion, beating analysts' average estimates of $1.20 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv. "We're committed to meeting them where they are with a broad portfolio of wonderful new games and live services, choice of engagement models including free-to-play and subscriptions, and new opportunities to play, compete and watch".
EA also noted that its digital net bookings for the trailing twelve months was $3.722 billion were up 5% year-over-year, representing 75% of total net bookings.
