Multiple victims in shooting at STEM School in Colorado

The shooting occurred at STEM School Highlands Ranch a public charter school with more than 1850 students in kindergarten through 12th grades

Nicholson-Kluth did not provide an exact number of students that were injured.

Shots were reported fired at a school in suburban Denver, Colorado, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said. "ABC News reports "multiple people shot", with two suspects in custody, police "engaging a third".

Douglas County undersheriff Holly Nicholson-Kluth said there was a possible eighth injury.

The school's website says that about 1,800 students attend the school and that it is a K-12 school.

A tweet sent by the Sheriff's Office at 4:40 p.m. EDT describes the area as an active and unstable scene.

The STEM school elementary school students were being held in the elementary gymnasium as of 3 p.m.

The school was under lockdown as authorities went from classroom to classroom to clear them, the spokeswoman said. Nearby schools were placed on lockout, according to the local station.

The school was surrounded by first responders, Paulson said.

Highlands Ranch is a suburb of Denver, and the school is roughly 14 miles from the city center. The school is located at 8773 South Ridgeline Blvd., Highlands Ranch. "The heart of all Colorado is with the victims & their families", Polis said.
