Europa League: Arsenal hammer Valencia 3-1 at Emirates

Alexandre Lacazette shortly brought the Gunners back into the tie, completing a fine team move by sliding home into an empty net after recieving the ball from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Arsenal, Europa League semi-finalists previous year, had lost three consecutive Premier League games to drop to fifth place in the table with two games left - undermining their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League via a top-four finish.

In another unfortunate incident, a video of a few Valencia fans making racist gestures to Arsenal fans during their UEFA Europa League semifinal clash the other day has emerged.

The Gunners have failed to finish in the top four in the last two seasons in the Premier League under Emery's predecessor Arsene Wenger.

"It is the year of the Centennial and in 100 years I want you to remember that Gabriel Paulista won the Europa League with Valencia CF".

"They play with very strong players in midfield and defensively".

However, the hosts did not learn their lesson and from another set-piece, Valencia took the lead when Diakhaby got the final touch at the back post to force home Rodrigo's header across goal.

Lacazette played in Aubameyang and the Gabon global left his marker and Valencia goalkeeper Neto on the ground before squaring for his strike partner to roll into an empty net.

Lacazette was denied a hat-trick on 66 minutes after Neto got down to block not one but two of his attempts.

But reports claim that the North London outfit will try once again during the summer since the manager is in need of money to fund his transfers at the end of the season. "For us it's continuing to work on how we can improve and how do better".

The victors will face either Chelsea or Eintracht Frankfurt in the Baku final, with the first leg of that fixture ending 1-1 in Germany.
