Zuckerberg to explain how Facebook gets 'privacy focused'

Facebook’s Zuckerberg Builds His Wife a Glowing ‘Sleep Box’More

It's perhaps unthinkable that Facebook has never introduced this before, but one more product that the company hopes to release this year is a desktop Messenger app.

More than 400 million people belong to a Facebook group, and these online communities often become an important part of their lives, he said.

Groups, which can be public or private on the social network, can be used to help keep long-distance friends in touch, connect people with similar interests or passions, and organize events. However, as BuzzFeed News reported in February of this year, the entire feature was simply a hastily thrown together PR play.

Facebook's announcement of a potential split comes after it was beset with numerous privacy controversies involving its users. The new Messenger will be nearly as small as the Lite version, around 30MB, but will offer all of its current features and more.

After making the site, that began in a dorm-room in Harvard, available to everyone in 2006 the company launched the News Feed to help users see what their friends are up to.

Last but certainly not least, Facebook said that it will eventually make Messenger have end-to-end encryption by default.

Facebook also promoted its augmented reality platform, which it opened to all developers on Tuesday.

The annual Facebook F8 developer conference was once again in full swing, the Cambridge Analytica scandal showed no sign of abating, and Facebook Chief Privacy Officer Erin Egan promised that a new tool called Clear History would be built in a "few months".

Lastly, a new feature will make it easier to meet people from your community.

"The future is private", Zuckerberg declared at the conference. There were also rumours of a feature now in testing which integrates Messenger with the native Facebook app under a new "Chats" section. It will also be integrated into Facebook Groups.

WhatsApp is also getting some changes. The desktop app is in testing now and will roll out globally later this year.

PayPal Holdings Inc. will process payments for purchases made directly inside Marketplace, according to a company spokesperson. But he added that Facebook's principles on data localisation aren't new and this has always been a risk. "We are seeing that groups can bridge people across dividing lines", Simo said.
