Rumors suggest the smaller Pixel 3a will be powered by a QualcommSnapdragon 670 chipset, while the bigger Pixel 3a XL will have a slightly more powerful Snapdragon 710 chipset under the hood.
According to oft-reliable tipster Evan Blass, better known via the Twitter handle @evleaks, Google will launch its more affordable take on the flagship Pixel 3 series during the opening keynote of Google IO next week.
Google's upcoming mid-range Pixel series smartphones have been all over the news since quite some time. However, it is worth mentioning that the highest end variant of the Pixel 3 XL costs $999 and it doesn't seem like smartphone consumers are willing to shell out that much for a smartphone.
With all the competition out there, it does feel like the new Google Pixel 3A and the XL model will have trouble standing out and getting the attention of the mid-range device buyers. It won't really be goodbye because we know Google and other retailers will still sell the smartphones. It's unclear whether this will replace the existing pink-ish colour - known as "Not Pink" on the official Google online store, or whether this will simply be added to the existing Pixel 3 line-up. This makes sense since most people who decide to shell out a lot of money on a phone, want it to be a total beauty, from all angles.
Google Pixels are good phones. A 17% year-on-year revenue increase has some investors concerned and Google CEO Sundar Pichai had to answer some tough questions about the company's hardware prospects.
"But I do think, especially, the ecosystem is constantly pushing it forward".
Google does not break out revenue for its equipment-related products in its quarterly profit reports, however, the segment is growing in spite of the lackluster phone sales, hitting nearly $5.5 billion in revenue this past quarter.
