Apple recalls plug adapters over safety fears

Apple recalls plugs in UK, Hong Kong and Singapore

The three prong wall adapters at issue are all white, in contrast to newer models which are partially gray, as depicted on Apple's website.

Plug adaptors that may give you an electric shock have been recalled by Apple.

Apple has announced a voluntary recall of certain AC wall plug adapters after confirming they can break and risk giving an electric shock when touched.

What if my plug is affected?

More serious was in 2016 when Apple was forced to recall some two-prong plug adapters designed for use in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Continental Europe, New Zealand and South Korea amid fears they could electrocute users. Owners of at-risk plugs can exchange their adaptors at an Apple store or authorised Apple service provider for free.

Apple did not reveal any details of whether anyone was injured by the fault. They were produced and shipped over a seven year period between 2003 and 2010.

A three-pronged plug included in the World Travel Adapter kit is also being recalled. The design is notable for being bulkier than its apparently safer replacement, and by using an all-white casing with no external markings; the safe, thinner, replacement has a grey inner with safety and regulatory information plus dimples to the sides. Apple's USB power adapters are not included in the recall.

The serial number of the device that the plug came with will be needed in order to verify the Mac, iPod, iPhone or iPad that the adaptor came with.

Apple has recalled certain plug adapters in the United Kingdom over fears they could cause an electric shock.

The company said it was aware of twelve incidents where this had happened.
