NRA Bombshell - Longtime Leader LaPierre Says Oliver North is Extorting Him

US President Donald Trump

His departure came after NRA Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre accused North of trying to oust him by threatening to release "damaging" information about him, according to a letter from LaPierre to NRA board members that was published by the Wall Street Journal on Friday.

NRA President Lt Col Oliver North addresses the 148th National Rifle Association (NRA) annual meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S., April 26, 2019.

A statement from North read to NRA members at its annual convention in Indianapolis on Saturday said he believes a committee should be set up to review the NRA's finances. "It needs to be dealt with immediately and responsibly so the NRA can continue to focus on protecting our Second Amendment", he said.

"Please know I hoped to be with you today as NRA president endorsed for re-election". "But as I've discovered, Ackerman McQueen is capable of doing something much different".

LaPierre's letter also states that past year, North "entered into an employment agreement with [Ackerman McQueen] that pays him millions of dollars annually" related to a television series his agency is producing but that, as the Virginia lawsuit explains, the agency will not disclose the details of that contract, which the NRA is demanding in court.

The incident was first reported after a video was posted to social media, taken by attendee Bradley Brewer, showing a black object flying through the air before landing on the stage as the president was approaching the lectern to make his speech to gun rights supporters at the convention in Indianapolis. The lawsuit alleges the firm refused to comply with requests to justify its billings.

"The letter would contain a devastating account for our financial status, sexual harassment charges against a staff member, accusations of wardrobe expenses and excessive staff travel expenses", LaPierre wrote. "And it is clear that his loyalty is to Ackerman McQueen", she added.

The NRA has been plunged into internal turmoil at a vulnerable time.

LaPierre was referring to a lawsuit filed in Virginia state court by the NRA against Ackerman McQueen this month. In 2017 alone, the NRA paid the firm $40 million. The segment featured several trains wearing Ku Klux Klan hoods and sitting on flaming tracks.

Advocates of tighter gun restrictions denounced Trump's decision.

However, local Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America leader Kathy Parker says the NRA stands for gun sales and doesn't do anything to save lives. "The bottom line is this: As the NRA plummets, the gun safety movement just keeps growing". LaPierre also said North "stated that he could "negotiate" an "excellent retirement" for me".

North's term as president of the organization ends on Monday.

Mr. LaPierre had said in his letter to the board this week that Mr.
