Donald Trump state visit to United Kingdom set for June, announces Buckingham Palace

Donald Trump will hold talks with Prime Minister Theresa May in Downing Street during the visit

The Prime Minister and the president and his wife will travel to Normandy on June 6 for further Normandy commemorations, with Mrs May attending a number of events including the inauguration of the British Normandy memorial in Ver-Sur-Mer.

"It's up to us, again, to say Trump is not welcome, and to make his visit as unpleasant as possible".

It said 10,000 officers from across the country were needed to cover the occasion.

The offer was accepted, but President Trump pulled out amid fears over widespread protests.

The announcement has been expected and it sparked calls for renewed demonstrations after thousands of people took to the streets previous year when he arrived in Britain. "He spoke to the people and what they wanted to hear", she said.

Her government wants a lucrative post-Brexit trade deal with the USA and sees Trump, who has promised one, as a useful vehicle to achieve that. His last visit to the United Kingdom, in July 2018, was styled as a working visit.

Major refurbishment is now taking place at Buckingham Palace meaning there is not enough space for Trump's staff, it is claimed.

And Daily Star Online has also found that Trump won't be staying at the Queen's summer home Windsor Castle, either.

At the same time as the State Visit was announced, President Trump was in the middle of a stream of tweets claiming Twitter was biased against Republicans because Barack Obama has more followers than he does. State visits are not just ceremonial.

According to ANI news reports, Trump will be welcomed with a similar ceremony which was received by former U.S. president Obama.

The Trumps visited the United Kingdom in July 2018, but only for a two-day working visit, and he was not officially invited by the Queen. The former is less formal and involves less ceremony than the latter, which is issued directly by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II on the advice of the government.

There is usually a state banquet, and a visit to - and speeches at - the Houses of Parliament may be included. Speaker John Bercow has previously suggested he would bar Trump from speaking to the Commons, saying it was "not an automatic right, it is an earned honour".

Leo Murray, the activist behind the Trump baby blimp, said: "We're quite sure that all British people of good will are going to be ready to run Trump out of town for a second time".
