World's largest aircraft successfully completes maiden test flight in California

Stratolaunch a giant six-engine aircraft with the world’s longest wingspan, makes its historic first flight from the Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave Calif. Saturday

The world's largest aircraft, the Stratolaunch Launch Systems Stratolaunch, flew for the first time on Saturday, April 13, 2019.

Reaching a maximum speed of 189 miles (302.4 km) per hour, the aircraft flew for 2.5 hours over the Mojave Desert at altitudes up to 17,000 feet.

Stratolaunch Chief Executive Officer Jean Floyd said it was a fantastic first flight. The goal for Stratolaunch is to provide an alternative launch platform for satellites other than rockets like SpaceX's Falcon 9 or SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket-which had its first successful test flight this week as well. He died late in 2018 as a result of complications from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The aircraft is created to release rockets attached to the centre of its enormous wing, which stretches 385 feet from tip to tip. The aircraft is created to release rockets attached to the center of its enormous wing, which stretches 385 feet (117 meters) from tip to tip. As part of the initial flight, the pilots evaluated aircraft performance and handling qualities before landing successfully back at the Mojave Air and Space Port, said the release. To save money on designing new engines and landing gear, the jet is powered by six Pratt & Whitney engines, which were originally designed for Boeing 747s.

Stratolaunch declared that a double fuselage design and wingspan longer than an American football field, the plane departed from Mojave Air and Space Port in the US state of California at 6:58 a.m.

The previous wingspan leader was Howard Hughes' World War II-era eight-engine H-4 Hercules flying boat - nicknamed the Spruce Goose. "The aircraft is a remarkable engineering achievement and we congratulate everyone involved", said the late billionaire's sister Jody Allen, who is also the chair of his philanthropic trust.

The Stratolaunch is the furthest into the development of future rocket bearing aircraft, but it isn't alone. Stratolaunch has now made a deal with Northrop Grumman to launch their Pegasus rockets, the first privately developed rocket and the first to use an aircraft to launch it. Surviving in an aviation museum, it has an approximately 320ft (97.5m) wingspan but is just under 219ft long.

Other aeroplanes exceed it in length from nose to tail, including the six-engine Antonov AN 225 cargo plane, which is 84 meters long, and the Boeing 747-8, which is about 76.3 meters long.

With the Stratolaunch, an aircraft that transports its artifacts between its two fuselages, the great advantage is its huge capacity of external transport.
