Ukip MEP quits to join Farage’s new Brexit Party

Second Brexit referendum vote could happen, says Hammond

"We will change politics for good", Farage told assembled supporters in the city, which backed Brexit by a large majority in the 2016 referendum.

Britain's Minister for the Cabinet Office David Lidington leaves the Houses of Parliament in London, Britain April 3, 2019.

"We've got to deliver the outcome of the referendum. but, the Conservative Party has got to remain a broad church, a national party, and it's got to be talking about things that matter to people in their everyday lives: housing, health service, living standards".

A poll by Opinium covered in the Observer said that support for Tories had fallen to 29 percent, down six percentage points compared to a fortnight ago.

The government has indicated that Britain could still leave the European Union before those elections if the two main parties could reach a compromise on a Brexit agreement in the next couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, an analysis of various polls by the Sunday Telegraph showed that the Tories would lose almost 60 seats in a potential snap election that could come over May's failure to deliver on Brexit.

But despite such a victory, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn would not automatically become prime minister - he could only form a government if he secured sufficient support from other parties such as the SNP.

"They're not going to go on for months, they're certainly going to continue next week", Lidington said.

He warned the talks could not be allowed to drag out for months, but showed little indication the government may drop its requirement that future EU ties cannot involve a customs union.

Eurosceptic Iain Duncan Smith, a former Conservative Party leader, said May should be ready to quit in June.

"Some of the heads were saying this may be one of the most pro-European demonstrations Europe-wide in the elections", a senior Brussels figure told The Telegraph, with socialists including Greece's Alexis Tsipras, Malta's Joseph Muscat, Spain's Pedro Sanchez backing the idea at last Wednesday's European Summit where they agreed to Prime Minister Theresa May's further Brexit delay to October 31st.

The Conservative Party faces being swept from power by Jeremy Corbyn with the loss of almost 60 seats in the event of a general election, according to new polling.
