Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp went down on Sunday affecting users around the world.

Mashable has reached out to Facebook for information on what's causing Sunday's outages.

The sites were back in business around 9 a.m. EST.

The site showed there had been more than 7,700 incidents of people reporting issues with Facebook at its peak.

Below is the spike in Facebook issues reported by users on DownDetector.

Users of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp across the world reported problems accessing the platforms on the morning of Sunday, April 14.

Some media outlets had branded the outage - which also affected Instagram as well as Messenger - as the biggest in Facebook's history.

Twitter was not even trying not to gloat, with this trending #facebookdown. Instagram users had the same issues, and WhatsApp members could not send or receive messages.

Facebook spokesperson mentioned, "Earlier today, some people may have experienced trouble connecting to the family of apps". The monitoring website's outage map indicated that the blacked was extensively experienced by the users in Asia and Europe.

In March, it took Facebook 24 hours to announce that the issue which took its social media services offline had finally been resolved.

It's not clear what the problem is and Facebook has yet to comment on the outage.
