95-year-old American man killed by tornado in Mississippi

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY Widespread severe weather this afternoon

There were reports of multiple injuries in the Robertson County town of Franklin, the NWS said, and CNN affiliate KWTX reported widespread damage there. Trees were down and at least some minor structural damage was reported in residential areas east of the campus.

National Weather Service meteorologist John Moore said a possible twister touched down Saturday in the Vicksburg, Miss., area.

Storms could bring damaging winds and isolated threats of large hail and tornadoes, meteorologists said.

Storms hammered east Texas on Saturday, with two children killed when a tree fell on a auto, authorities said.

The storms produced additional tornadoes throughout Louisiana and MS on Saturday night as the storm moved east threatening the upper Ohio Valley and central Appalachians to the upper Gulf Coast on Sunday, before moving to the mid-Atlantic.

A MS man, identified as 95-year-old Roy Ratliff died on Saturday when a tornado caused a tree to fall onto his home, Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley said.

A preliminary damage survey found that a tornado with peak intensity of EF-3 and winds up to 140 miles per hour touched down in Robertson County, according to a tweet from the National Weather Service in Forth Worth.

Tour leader Amanda O'Brien said that after some confusion, American Airlines representatives were able to get them on their way to Beijing late Sunday morning.

The storm system will lift northeast Sunday presenting a risk of strong to severe storms in the Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic.

In another storm death nearby, an unidentified victim's body was trapped in a vehicle submerged in floodwaters in Calhoun, Louisiana, Springfield said.

A county employee died after being struck by a vehicle while he was helping clear away trees about 2:15 a.m. Sunday near the Birmingham suburb of Hueytown, said Capt. David Agee of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. The man, whose name was not released, died after being taken to a hospital.

"It looks like a storm came up through Louisiana and into MS and exploded in Monroe County", Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said.

However, the area had been under a tornado warning at the time the storm hit. None of the injuries were thought to be life-threatening.

Authorities in MS have identified the man who they say was killed after a tornado struck his town. Multiple people were injured and several homes were damaged in Hamilton, Mississippi, said Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley. Franklin is located about 125 miles (200 kilometers) south of Dallas.

At Georgia's Augusta National Golf Club, organizers of The Masters golf tournament moved up tee times Sunday to try to beat risky weather.
