Tesla Model 3 Standard Range dropped from online configurator

Tesla Model 3 Standard Range dropped from online configurator

Previously, Tesla planned to put a smaller battery pack in the basic model and a larger one in the Standard Plus, the spokesman said. The carmaker is now backing away from its online-only ordering approach with the standard Model 3.

The electric vehicle maker plans to keep taking online orders for the Standard Plus Model 3, which starts at $39,500 and is now the lowest-price option available to digital consumers, along with higher-end models.

In a press release on their site published Thursday evening, Tesla announced the end of online sales for the $35,000 Tesla Model 3, making it available only over the phone or in Tesla Showrooms.

Let's take a look at the base pricing in each European country, compared to the other Model 3 variants.

The Standard version will have its range limited by 10 percent-which means 216 miles of range for the Standard, versus 240 miles for the Plus, according to Tesla. Tesla announced that Autopilot will now be standard on all Tesla vehicles (with the exception of the $35,000 car).

The Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus is now available to order in Europe.

In an odd change, Tesla has removed the option of buying its lowest cost Model 3 from its website in Canada. Tesla has long offered leases on the Model S and Model X, but CEO Elon Musk said in sales call in January that the company needed to be in a stronger cash position to carry Model 3 leases on its books. The company pitched the change as an added value since, for example, the $37,500 Model 3 Standard Plus required an extra $3,000 to add Autopilot. It now costs $39 500 with Autopilot included. Deliveries of the vehicle at that price point - the big promise of the Model 3 when it was first unveiled in March 2016 - are just beginning this weekend.

Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) on Thursday started leasing out its Model 3 sedan in the United States, in a financing option that would increase the electric vehicle maker's customer base. U.S. customers can choose from 10,000, 12,000 and 15,000 mile annual usage options, depending on their budgets and driving. The monthly payment due on that basis is US$504. Notably, leasers won't have the option to purchase their auto at the end of the lease as Tesla aims to repurpose them for its future ride-hailing network.
