Maurizio Sarri insists Roman Abramovich retains hands-on role at Chelsea

Sarri wants Chelsea to buy Higuain but admits striker ‘needs to improve’

"It'll be a very important run-in from now until the end of the season, because they would love to be in the Champions League next year".

'Of course it will be hard, but I have to consider in this moment of the season we need to change, ' Sarri said at his pre-match press conference.

Sarri continues to have only fleeting contact with Roman Abramovich, whose commitment to the club remains unswerving despite confirmation the owner has stopped paying up front for his £1m-a-year corporate box at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Sarri insisted he wants to keep the on-loan Juventus striker at Stamford Bridge next term, despite the Blues remaining subject to a Federation Internationale de Football Association transfer ban.

He is expected to be on the bench at West Ham on Monday but should start the Europa League quarter-final first leg against Slavia Prague on Thursday.

Asked if he thinks Giroud wants to stay at Chelsea, Sarri replied: "I think so".

Higuain has scored just three goals in 11 games for Chelsea, with the club needing to pay 36million euros (£31m) to bring him in permanently from Juventus. The Hammers lie 11th in the Premier League and looked like a team who were on the beach during their terrible display at home to the Toffees.

"I think we have to fight until the last minute of the last match, but without looking at the other results".

CHELSEA have not suffered a home Premier League defeat on a Monday since 1994 and will be aiming to keep that record intact when they host West Ham on tonight.

Chelsea were handed a two-window transfer ban by world governing body Federation Internationale de Football Association in February over the recruitment of foreign youngsters with the club's appeal against the sanction set to be heard on 11 April. "I know the club have an option for another season, so I think he will remain".

"At their best they can compete with the best teams, they can beat anyone".

"We have a lot of young players, very good, they are improving".

Hudson-Odoi started his first league game against Brighton and Hove Albion last time out, and Sarri suggested that he could soon earn his second.
