Eagles add RB, acquire Jordan Howard from Bears

CHICAGO ILLINOIS- JANUARY 06 Jordan Howard #24 of the Chicago Bears warms up before the NFC Wild Card Playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Soldier Field

No, it's not a bank-breaker by any stretch, but relatively speaking it'll easily make him the most expensive back in Chicago's stable.

That all died when the Eagles pulled off a trade for Chicago Bears running back Jordan Howard.

The writing was on the wall for a down season from Howard after the Bears brought in former Andy Reid assistant Matt Nagy as their new head coach.

"Davis is a tough runner who can catch out of the backfield", one personnel man texted us Tuesday of the signing. Howard is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Howard was the first Bears running back to earn Pro Bowl honors since Hall of Famer Gale Sayers in 1965.

Philly gave up pretty much nothing for Howard.

A fifth- or sixth-round pick for a really good, young running back is an incredibly low price to pay.

Howard rushed for over 1,100 yards in his first two seasons in the league and averaged over 70 yards per game.

Jordan Howard is getting a change of scene, but will it really be that different?

The 24-year-old was drafted out of the University of IN in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Only Ezekiel Elliott and Todd Gurley gained more on the ground during that span. Vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas was the Bears' director of college scouting when Howard was drafted.

Howard had put in extra work to improve his pass-catching before last season. Initial temptation in the likes of Le'Veon Bell and Tevin Coleman netted the team nothing. Both noted at the owners meetings that all three of their primary runners in the 2017 postseason run were acquired after the draft.
