Beto O'Rourke's presidential ambitions get reality check from Ellen K.

Beto O'Rourke is running for President in 2020

Former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke has confirmed in a text to an El Paso TV station that he will run for president. He's also planning a campaign rally in El Paso on March 30. Ted Cruz past year for the Senate to another newcomer when it comes to experience: Abraham Lincoln.

In the article, O'Rourke did not outright say he is running, be he said things like "I want to run". O'Rourke said during his Senate campaign that he did not have Oval Office aspirations, but he admitted at a town hall late past year that his position had changed from what he said on the campaign trail and that he and his wife had "made a decision not to rule anything out".

O'Rourke raised a Senate campaign record $80 million while running against Cruz and is seen as one of the front-runners for the Democratic nomination. O'Rourke lost the race by less than 3 percentage points, the tightest U.S. Senate contest in the state in four decades.

The "born to be in it" comment has already garnered some backlash on social media, as issues of inequality and privilege are being debated in what is already the most crowded and diverse Democratic primary field in recent history.

When asked about O'Rourke's entrance into the presidential race this morning, President Trump referred to O'Rourke's energetic hand movements in his announcement video and asked, "Is he insane or is that just the way he acts?" He passed just three bills while in Congress, and a lack of governing experience could hurt, but President Donald Trump's rise suggests that the US electorate might welcome an outspoken outsider. And he was the only presidential prospect interviewed by Oprah Winfrey, who appeared genuinely excited last month about the prospect of an O'Rourke White House run.

Beto O'Rourke announced he is running for president, making it official with an online video released Thursday morning.

O'Rourke outlined challenges facing the United States, from immigration to climate change, saying, "The foundational challenge to get all of this done, is to fix our democracy".

Even President Donald Trump had a take, telling reporters that he watched O'Rourke's announcement and was puzzled by the former congressman's constant hand and arm movements.
