Madrid announced on Monday evening that Zinedine Zidane will instead take over on a three-year deal, however - a shock appointment considering the Frenchman allegedly left on bad terms with Florentino Perez just 10 months ago.

Zinedine Zidane is a much-liked figure within the Madrid camp, both amongst players and fans, as his history with the club is dripping in success, both as a player and as a manager.

The only silverware still on offer for Real Madrid is the league, and Barcelona holds a 12-point advantage in the table with 11 matches to play, so it would take an epic collapse by the club's biggest, bitterest rival.

"The Board of Directors has named Zinedine Zidane as the new trainer of Real Madrid effective immediately for the rest of the season and until June 30th 2022".

The club announced that Solari, who made almost 150 appearances for Real as a player in the early 2000s before returning to the club in 2013 as youth coach, has been offered the chance to stay at the club.

He stepped down last summer after beating Liverpool in the Champions League final.

Solari's men got back to winning ways on Sunday evening, beating Real Valladolid 4-1 away from home.

Jose Mourinho looked like the initial front-runner for a return to the club, but it's thought that there's too much difference of opinion within the club about the Portuguese.

Now seems like a insane time for Zidane to return, such a short time after leaving, but rarely do things make sense when it comes to Real and managers.

"As footballers, we like to do our talking on the pitch but this season is not turning out that way", Ramos wrote. "We the players are primarily responsible and I, as captain, more than anyone".

Over the past two weeks, the wheels have well and truly come off Real Madrid. We have enormous respect for the position and we always support the Real Madrid coach.
