Siti Aisyah cried and hugged her Vietnamese co-defendant, Doan Thi Huong, before leaving the courtroom.
The Indonesian woman accused of killing Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, is to be freed as the murder charge against her is dropped. He said Huong was distressed and felt the ruling was unfair to her since the judge previously had found a murder case against them both should go forward.
On the morning of 13th February 2017, Kim Jong-nam was reportedly attacked by two women while he was at the Klia2 departure hall. "Thank you to the Malaysian government for releasing me".
Indonesia's Law and Human Rights Minister, Yasonna Laoly, who was with Siti Aisyah at a press conference in Jakarta, said the Indonesian government thanked all parties in Malaysia, involved in the court proceedings.
Gooi Soon Seng, Siti Aisyah's lawyer, said his client was "a scapegoat".
The Judge approved the request saying "Siti Aisyah is freed", but this does not amount to an acquittal, according to APF news agency. "I am innocent - please pray for me", the 30-year-old said. "I did not expect it".
Indonesia Ambassador Rusdi Kirana expressed gratidude for the decision.
Ms Aisyah was emotional as she told reporters she had only learned this morning that she would be freed.
North Korea has fiercely denied any involvement in the killing, but four men - believed to be North Koreans who fled Malaysia on the day of the killing - have also been charged in the case.
"We are hoping against hope that the charges against her will be dropped", said Teh Poh Teik, Huong's lawyer.
Indonesia's Foreign Ministry brought Aisyah's parents to Jakarta, where they are expected to meet their daughter when she arrives, her mother Benah told CNN. Vietnam has pushed less hard, and recently hosted Kim Jong Un for an official visit and a summit with President Donald Trump.
Benah said she is unaware of what will happen next, but plans to "make sure that Siti will only work at home". The defence phase of the trial had been scheduled to start in January but was delayed until Monday.
Huong's lawyer said she was "traumatized" that only Aisyah had been released, and the court agreed to adjourn the Vietnamese suspect's testimony to allow her legal team to apply for her murder charge to be dropped.
Malaysian officials have never officially accused North Korea and have made it clear they don't want the trial politicised.
Jong Nam fell out of favor with their father, former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, almost two decades ago and lived in self-imposed exile in the Chinese-controlled territory of Macau.
In August, a judge ruled there was sufficient evidence the suspects had engaged in a "well-planned conspiracy" with the North Koreans to murder Kim, and ordered that the trial continue to the defense stage.
