Why Max Kellerman Thinks Celtics Can Win Title Without Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving Celtics

Kyrie continues to blame the media for making players unhappy. Sure, you can learn a few things about game planning weaknesses and player limitations, but the only guaranteed thing to come from the experience is a better understanding of how the involved parties handle adversity. While it is true that in some cases his frustration is understandable, Irving has definitely contributed to the constant media hounding and has consistently fed into it.

I've said it before, but I didn't really come into this game to be cameras in my face and be famous, be a celebrity, whatever embodies that. "I wanted those things when I was younger but now at this point in my career I just want to play basketball at a very, very high level and the distractions that come within the team sometimes can get overwhelming so, I'm human". It's toxic. I can't really point out one thing. And I don't even want to call them young guys.

Irving told Celtics' fans prior to this season that he's not going anywhere, but then recently he made it clear he's not sold on sticking around and hinted at being interested in playing for the Knicks.

As for what's been troubling him, Irving said, "I get exhausted of this stuff, just like everybody else". Just because a team has talent doesn't mean that they are the best overall team. He was a highly touted prospect at Duke and was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the top pick in the 2011 draft, despite playing in just 11 games for the Blue Devils.

Instead, in the midst of a tumultuous 1-5 stretch coming out of the All-Star break, Brad Stevens' team sits in the No. 5 spot in the East while rumblings about Irving's impending free agency continue to simmer. "It's like nobody wants it to be exclusively about them, but we take most of the responsibility and so does the head coach". "It makes players very unhappy". I'm just going to try to be part of the change.

"I've shared it with some of my teammates as well as the organization as well as everyone else in Boston", Irving said at an event for season-ticket holders at TD Garden, via the Celtics.
