North Carolina coach Roy Williams is helped off the court after falling near the bench Saturday.
With less than a minute left in the first half, Williams dropped to his knees and fell forward into the bench as North Carolina came back to defend. "It's vertigo. I guess two or three years ago at Boston College it was the same thing", Williams said. John Newman gave the Tigers a little momentum heading into intermission, however, hitting a short jumper with five seconds remaining and the Heels lead 39-35 at the break.
"I just wanted to let y'all know I'm alive", Williams said after the game.
"I'm not going to croak on anybody". Clemson still had one last shot at the win but the 3/4 court heave by Clyde Trapp was off the mark and UNC held on for the win in this ACC Must See Moment presented by New York Life.
It's going to take a near flawless performance, in my opinion, but the game of basketball is a weird sport and things don't go as they would appear on paper. A similar situation occurred with Williams in 2016. It's excruciating pain for a little while.
Williams said he felt well enough to return to the sideline, but he didn't want to ruin the mojo of the Tar Heels, who were leading at the time.
"I'm so proud of our team. I'm only going to [do] this once every two or three years, but I don't do it intentionally". The teams began to trade 3-pointers Coby White shot the Heels back into contention with four 3-pointers in a span of a few minutes.
Cam Johnson added 19 points and Luke Maye had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Tar Heels (24-5, 14-2 ACC).
