Trump Calls NYT ‘Enemy of the People’, Slamming News Reporting as False

Report: Trump Asked Whitaker to Appoint Ally Judge To Head SDNY Investigation On 2016 Hush Payments

He asked whether Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States attorney for the Southern District of NY and a Trump ally, could be put in charge of the widening investigation, according to several American officials with direct knowledge of the call.

Fox News contributor Andrew McCarthy said Wednesday that a report claiming President Trump asked if a us attorney could lead the probe into Michael Cohen despite his recusal is "all wind and no rain".

Judge Andrew Napolitano indicated Tuesday if a report about President Donald Trump trying to interfere with a federal investigation involving his former lawyer is true, that would be an attempt to obstruct justice.

Al Jazeera's Patty Culhane has the latest from Washington. Berman had previously recused himself from the investigation, citing a conflict of interest.

While it is highly unusual for anyone to comment on continuing criminal investigations, Trump has done so at least on 330 days, or more than 43 per cent of his time in office as of February 14, the analysis said.

"The phrase 'enemy of the people" is not just false, it's unsafe.

And the overwhelming majority of respondents - 93 percent - believed the Times was more credible.

He tweeted: "The New York Times reporting is false". "I at no time got the impression that he'd actually sought support, or talked to those people about it, or asked people, you know, 'would you support this?' or 'would you not'". It assessed Mr Trump had attacked the probe more than 1100 times in his war of attrition.

Donald Trump biographer David Cay Johnston slammed the president in an interview on Wednesday, accusing Trump of committing crimes while in office and even going so far as to link him to the Kremlin. He sat down with a number of reporters who cover the Justice Department on Thursday morning to discuss his book and his role in the ongoing special counsel investigation being led by Robert Mueller.

Johnston then added that when Trump is no longer president he must be "indicted and, if convicted by a jury, imprisoned", or else he will continue to condone acts of violence and smear law enforcement agencies as "not legitimate".

Trump went on to say he has "a lot of respect for Mr Whitaker", calling him a "very, very straight shooter" and praising his combative performance this month in a hearing by the House Judiciary Committee.

In August, Cohen admitted he made illegal campaign contributions at the behest of Trump and pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations in connection with the hush-money payments. Investigators have examined key episodes such as Trump's firing of Comey and Trump's fury over Attorney General Jeff Sessions' recusal.
