Feel the Re-Bern: Sanders in for 2020

Sanders has continued to poll favorably among Americans since the 2016 election

Senator Sanders, who has held dozens of political rallies across the country since the 2016 election, enters the race with the biggest social media following - and biggest mailing list - of any candidate for the Democratic nomination. Less than four hours after he announced his second presidential campaign, the 77-year-old lawmaker raised $1 million, propelling him well ahead of other 2020 hopefuls who launched their bids with significant financial support.

The Independent senator from Vermont announced his candidacy for the presidency early Tuesday and will address a host of issues at the town hall, which will air at 8 p.m. ET.

One quirk of the Democratic primary system that may have given Clinton an edge was the party's use of superdelegates. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.). Sen.

These are certainly factors that ought to be taken into consideration along with current horse-race polling and other candidate assessments that don't take terrifying if marginally likely possibilities into account.

As the defending champ, Sanders must meet expectations to win New Hampshire or he might lack a political reason to stay in the race. "A few years ago his support for a $15 Minimum Wage, Medicare for all and Universal College education was in the realm of the impossible".

In the end the race ended up being far tighter than predicted, with Sanders winning several states - including the likes of MI - which Clinton later lost to Trump.

During the 2016 presidential election, when Sanders was runner-up to then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, the Democratic socialist eschewed PAC donations.

The question now for Sanders is whether he can stand out in a crowded field of Democratic presidential candidates who embrace many of his policy ideas but are newer to the national stage.

"You know what's happened in over three years?" he said.

"What they experienced was absolutely unacceptable and certainly not what a progressive campaign - or any campaign - should be about", Sanders said January 10 on Capitol Hill.

Sanders notes that policies he advocated for in 2016 are now embraced by the Democratic Party. Candidates like Sen. Elizabeth Warren of MA have already begun highlighting their progressive bona fides on the campaign trail, throwing their support behind bold proposals like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal while touting a tough stance on Wall Street.

Sanders also released a YouTube video Tuesday outlining major themes of his campaign.

Sanders served in the House until 2006 when he was elected to the US Senate.

Sanders used his announcement to attack President Donald Trump, saying: 'We are living in a pivotal and risky moment in American history. Sanders also opposed the 1991 and 2002 resolutions to authorize military engagement in Iraq.

When Sanders met with a group of men and women who wrote a letter to his office detailing their experiences in 2016, he was, according one former staffer in attendance, "conciliatory" and opened his remarks with what she described as an "honest apology".
