Japans Osaka in shock split with tennis coach Bajin

Naomi Osaka has split from her coach Sascha Bajin just weeks after winning the Australian Open

World No.1 tennis player Naomi Osaka has parted ways with coach Sascha Bajin, the 21-year-old announced on her social media. She also thanked Bajin and wished him "all the best in the future".

No replacement coach has been named by Osaka who is scheduled to resume her season next week in Dubai.

"Hey everyone, I will no longer be working together with Sascha", Osaka wrote.

Bajin took up the coach's job with Osaka in 2017 and experienced immediate success.

" Thanks to my team, I don't think I would have made it through this week without you". What a ride that was. "Thank you for letting me be part of this", Bajin tweeted in reply.

Osaka withdrew from this week's Qatar Open, citing a back injury. Osaka's Twitter feed lit up in response to her announcement, with several memes expressing widespread disbelief - including a shrugging Barack Obama, a confused Joey from American sitcom "Friends" and a Minions character screaming "WHAAAAT?"

That added to her championship at the U.S. Open last September, when she defeated Serena Williams in straight sets.

By winning a second grand slam and becoming world No 1, she firmly established herself as at the forefront of the next generation of women players. She has dual citizenship and now is based in Florida.
