Warren's announcement makes her the eighth Democrat officially running for president, joining the likes of Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, Senator Kamala Harris of California, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of NY, former Congressman John Delaney of Maryland, Spiritual author Marianne Williamson of Texas and businessman Andrew Yang of NY. She made her intentions clear during a speech in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Saturday morning.
Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement Saturday that Warren has been "exposed as a fraud by the Native Americans she impersonated and disrespected to advance her professional career, and the people of MA she deceived to get elected".
Warren's Lawrence event came just over a month after she announced her presidential exploratory committee, ending years' of speculation as to whether she would seek a 2020 White House run. "He is just the latest and most extreme symptom of what has gone wrong in America-a product of a rigged system that props up the rich and powerful and kicks dirt on everyone else".
"Now when I talk about this, some rich guys scream, 'class warfare!' Well let me tell you something: These same rich guys have been waging class warfare against hardworking people for decades", the senator added. Not afraid to go after big banks and big business, she may yet turn into a frontrunner, too.
"This is the fight of our lives".
"We believe that Elizabeth Warren is the most electable Democrat and the best person to be president to defeat Trump", Adam Green, the co-founder of PCCC, said.
She has been forced to apologise for claiming on several occasions in her early political career that she was of Native American descent.
The Trump campaign released a statement about Warren's candidacy on Saturday, calling her a "fraud".
The report, which marked the first instance yet of Warren making the assertion in her own handwriting, prompted new apologies from the senator.
Elizabeth Warren essentially has been disqualified from a presidential run by virtue of her claim, in 1986, to Native American race on her Texas bar registration card.
"All she's doing is trying to protect us when the story's twisted and, of course as usual, it's gets pushed on things like 'Oh, she said she's Native American.' Like, who cares about that?" she said. "I say it's time to fight back".
Carmen Reyes is among the many residents who say Warren's announcement is a positive development as the city recovers from September's natural gas explosions and fires. "I want to see a revival of civic grace".
Warren's heritage claims have dogged her since her first campaign for the Senate in 2012, and Trump mockingly refers to her as "Pocahontas". She will travel to Iowa on Sunday and make visits to South Carolina, Georgia, Nevada, and California in the coming weeks.
Warren has been a frontrunner among democrats in the presidential running for months now.
