SPRINGFIELD, Illinois- The Illinois State Police have announced increased patrols and enforcement ahead of the Super Bowl weekend. ISP Troopers statewide will strictly enforce FATAL-4 violations, which include: DUI, Speeding, Distracted Driving and Seat Belt compliance, all of which are leading factors in fatal traffic crashes. During the 24-hour reporting period, there were three fatalities and 276 injuries resulting from traffic crashes.
ISP encourages drivers to celebrate the Super Bowl responsibly and make safety their top priority during the upcoming weekend.
"Impaired driving is not only irresponsible, but it can also destroy lives", CHP Commissioner Warren Stanley said.
"Before the game, designate a driver or make other arrangements for a safe, sober ride home", said Cynthia Watters, IDOT's bureau chief of Safety Programs and Engineering.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers made 43 OVI arrests from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday past year.
ISP would like to remind the public to drive sober, don't speed, limit distractions, and buckle up.
In Boston, assets from the MSP Division of Field Services, including patrols, tactical units, and teams specially trained in crowd control will assist the Boston Police Department.
