The Batman Release Date Announced, Ben Affleck No Longer Playing Batman

Batman Ben Affleck Matt Reeves

Ben Affleck was previously set to star in the film following his performances in "Justice League" and "Batman v. Superman", but a new Caped Crusader is to be cast. "Matt Reeves, doing it, I would be an ape on the ground for Matt Reeves, never mind be Batman".

The upcoming film will reportedly centre on a much younger version of Bruce Wayne than Affleck portrayed, necessitating a change in casting.

After years of only rumor and speculation regarding the next Batman movie, DC and Warner Bros. have hit fans with a slew of big official developments. Also, perhaps unexpectedly, no names have yet been attached or even rumoured to play Batman - though it's sure to be a hotly-contested role. For a guy who was the Caped Crusader for the better part of this decade, that's not a lot of output, but that doesn't really fall on Affleck's shoulders.

Recently, we got a first look of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad spin-off Birds Of Prey. Still, I live in faith. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films.

Matt Reeves joined the project in February 2017, and it sounds like he will be reworking the script (which explains why The Batman won't be ready for another two and a half years).

It feels like The Batman (or whatever this movie ends up ultimately being called) is still a ways off in DC's ever-fluctuating, ever-expanding plans for its cinematic slate.

Throughout his long comics history, the Caped Crusader has been portrayed to have deductive abilities rivaling those of any dedicated gumshoe on the planet - indeed, so formidable as to nearly qualify as a superpower.

You'll no doubt remember that Snyder held a producing credit on the original Suicide Squad when it released in 2016, while the likes of Aquaman and Wonder Woman have all benefited from the director's expertise.

Holy recasting, Batman! The search is on for a new Dark Knight following Ben Affleck's apparent confirmation that he is hanging up his Bat cape. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. "The Hypebeast account had posted a news alert stating, "@benaffleck will be hanging up his role as Batman. (Suddenly Affleck's Bruce Wayne was cracking jokes.) And Affleck's much-hyped appearance in Suicide Squad wound up being little more than a cameo.
