Netflix creeped out about Ted Bundy's 'alleged hotness'

Netflix wants you to stop thirsting after Ted Bundy

Zac Efron's latest role as serial killer Ted Bundy has triggered a backlash, with accusations the portrayal romanticises the notorious murderer and rapist. Judging by Bundy's three life sentences and execution 30 years ago in Florida's electric chair, this commenter doesn't read titles of documentaries.

"I think hopefully it will make more aware of their surroundings and be cautious".

Netflix has already had to ask viewers not to romance a serial killer (we know its Zac Efron...but still the story), which comes as no surprise after all the lust policing they've had to do with Penn Badgley in You.

This seems to have led Netflix to gently remind its viewers: "I've seen a lot of talk about Ted Bundy's alleged hotness and would like to gently remind everyone that there are literally THOUSANDS of hot men on the service - nearly all of whom are not convicted serial murderers", the statement read.

The series is a four-part documentary about one of the most notorious serial killers in the U.S. It premiered January 24, and you can watch the trailer below.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which is now on the bill at this year's Sundance Film Festival, unveiled its trailer earlier this week, to some disquiet among film fans.

Efron's casting in the film has sparked widespread debates online, particularly on Twitter, about whether or not the director is cashing in on making a serial killer "sexy".

'The most exciting thing for me was being able to sort of lend that Ted Bundy charisma to the part, ' said Zac, 31.

It's all pretty tongue-in-cheek, but it is a little bit concerning that there are people glorifying how hot a literal serial killer was. Indeed, as Rubin explains above, Berlinger's film explores how Bundy's surface charm caused many people to doubt his guilt in the face of all evidence, not least his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, played by Lily Collins. The film also features Metallica's James Hetfield as Officer Bob Hayward.

Other people have taken to Twitter to denounce those who have been calling Bundy attractive, with some saying that no one should be attracted to sociopathic killers. While Bundy confessed to the 30 savage murders in 1978, it is widely believed he butchered far more than 30 women during his crime spree in the 70s. We already know that it will be quite amusing when asking the movie ticket to the lady of the counter.
