Tiger Woods rues another frustrating day on the greens at Torrey Pines

Tiger Woods is aiming to go low on Friday after carding a battling two-under 70 in his first round of the year

Rose had a three-shot lead shrink to a single shot with his third bogey in five holes to start the final round at Torrey Pines.

Rose threatened to put a stranglehold on the tournament by shooting 3-under-par 69 on Saturday in San Diego.

Justin Rose tracked the flight of his 3-wood until he saw it splash into the pond guarding the 18th green at Torrey Pines. Rose finished at 21-under 267.

"I've worked hard and I've trained hard", Matsuyama said. "Anytime there's more of a favor to ball striking, it gives me more benefit".

He entered the weekend atop the leaderboard after tying the tournament's 36-hole record, and he kept pace by tying the 54-hole record Saturday.

Even though Rose never lost the lead, and led by at least two the entire back nine, there were a few key moments.

Even with three penalty shots on the day, Rose still managed a 3-under 69 and a three-shot lead, the same margin with which he began the day. He answered with two birdies and an eagle on the par 5s, reaching all of them in two, and appeared to be sailing until the missed shot out of the bunker on No. 14 for his second double bogey, and his shot into the water on the final hole.

The Farmers Insurance Open returns to Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California. "But the way I am striking the ball, I have confidence that I can attack a really hard golf course".

After a drive to the right side of the fairway on the 450-yard par-4 first hole, Rahm had a 137 yard approach shot, setting himself up for the birdie.

Rose threatened to run away from the pack - despite a double bogey at the fourth - when he picked up three shots on the front nine, including an eagle three at the ninth.

Scott birdied the last to move into second at 15 under, with 2017 champion Jon Rahm of Spain another stroke behind after a 68. He's at 14 under after a range of rounds, recovering from Friday's 72.

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama (67) and Talor Gooch (68) tied for third place at 16-under.

He was speaking before Rose's bogey at the last. The last time he won in January was in South Africa in 2002, the first of his 22 victories worldwide.

The WGC-Mexico Championship, Honda Classic, Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship, Valspar Championship and WGC-Dell Match Play are six tournaments that will conclude just a week before he would leave for the Masters.
