Black Panther Wins Big In Screen Actors Guild Awards, Elevating Oscar Chances

Alan Alda to win SAG Lifetime Achievement Award

The SAG Award victor for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series is nothing short of marvelous-the cast of Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took home the honor at the 25th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Brown, and Andy Serkis were on hand to accept the award, with numerous cast offering backstage acceptance speeches about the win.

He was speaking as the cast collected the best ensemble prize at the 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAGs). And has it changed the film industry for good?

"When we get a chance to act, it's our job, at least in part, to get inside a character's head and to search for a way to see life from that person's point of view - another person's vision of the world - and to let an audience experience that", he said. I also think of two questions we have received during multiple publicity rounds. And my answer to that is: "'To be young, gifted, and black'". "We all know what it's like to be told that there is not a place for you to be featured - yet you are young, gifted and black".

Marvel's Black Panther debuted right at the beginning of 2018 and then casually went on to smash the box office and make a bit of history along the way, earning $1.3 billion worldwide en route to becoming the first comic book movie nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. We know what's like to be beneath and not above.

"At an event in 1997, Woodard, Oh recalled, whispered in her ear, "'I'm so proud of you out there, we fight the same fight'".

And the 41-year-old star closed his speech with a joke about a sequel.

"One of the most powerful things we have as human beings are two eyes looking into two eyes, " said Close. In her speech, the actress thanked the rest of her ensemble cast, including fellow SAG victor and TV dad Tony Shalhoub, as well as the "unsung background actors" who appear on the Amazon show.

"I get some power from him that's about stepping up and living your best life, being exactly who you want to be and accomplishing everything you so desire", said Malek. But I will spare you.
