Giuliani says Cohen talked about Trump Tower in Moscow through 2016 election

For the second time in the space of a week, Rudy Giuliani has found himself walking back his own startling statements.

Meanwhile, Trump's lawyer, former NY mayor Rudy Giuliani, has made a number of erratic and contradictory statements about the Mueller investigation, which is looking into whether members of the Trump campaign collaborated with the Russian government to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential race.

Giuliani, in case you missed it over the weekend, told CNN's Jake Tapper that maybe Trump did or maybe Trump didn't talk to Michael Cohen before Cohen lied to Congress about the Moscow Project. He said Monday that his remarks about discussions between Trump and Michael Cohen "bout a potential Trump Moscow "project" were hypothetical and not based on conversations I had with the president". Cohen, unlike in the Southern of District of NY case against him, did not say that Trump "directed" him to commit a crime.

President Donald Trump's discussions to build a skyscraper in Moscow extended until after he won the presidency, his lawyer Rudolph Giuliani said on Sunday.

"The President never (emphasis ours) spoke with Cohen about the congressional testimony", Giuliani told the New York Daily News, adding that any talks that occurred would have "happened between the lawyers [and] would have been part of the joint defense agreement".

It remains unclear when or if discussions about building Trump Tower Moscow officially ended.

In an interview with the New Yorker, Giuliani was asked why he concluded the report was false.

An investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion between Moscow and Trump's campaign has loomed large over the Trump presidency amid media reports of his team's connections with Russian Federation.

"I did not say that", Giuliani told Chotiner. I don't think, as a lawyer, I ever said anything that's untruthful. But the President's recollection of it is that the - the thing had petered out quite a bit. And as long as they didn't collude and make a specific agreement ahead of time, Trump would get his Trump Tower and Putin would get relief from sanctions. "So any time during that period, they could have talked about it", he said. But Trump had signed a nonbinding letter of intent on the project.

"Because I have been through all the tapes, I have been through all the texts, I have been through all the emails, and I knew none existed", he said.
