Tom Cruise Announces Upcoming 'Mission: Impossible' Movies | Christopher McQuarrie, Movies, Tom Cruise

Two More Mission Impossible Movies Coming From Fallout Director

He then came back for the next film, Mission: Impossible Fallout which brought in $791 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing film in the franchise.

Christopher McQuarrie - who helmed the last two films, Rogue Nation and Fallout - is also on board to write and direct the two new installments. McQuarrie has confirmed the news via his Twitter. The release also leaves room for the studio, Paramount, and Cruise to release Top Gun: Maverick. Nothing is set in stone, but those with knowledge of the projects have mentioned that Paramount plans to get the first new Mission: Impossible film off the ground and in front of cameras sometime this year.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout will be available on digital platforms beginning November 20, followed by the Blu-ray and DVD release on December 4. He shared a five-second teaser featuring the Mission: Impossible logo flanked by a lit fuse, ready to explode. While the first two movies, 1996's Mission: Impossible and 2000's Mission: Impossible 2 were successes, it was with the third installment, the J.J.

McQuarrie also revealed he is eyeing a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow - which he wrote - also with Cruise. It makes total sense that Paramount Pictures would try to keep the McQuarrie/Tom Cruise team intact. They say if McQuarrie can further develop the characters introduced by him in "Rogue Nation" and "Fallout", this should continue the trend of including some of the best stunts in film history. With him now directing four films in the franchise in a row, it means they've definitively moved away from bringing on fresh voices, but considering Fallout hit a series record high with almost $800 million worldwide and was virtually universally beloved, we can't fault Paramount's choice.
