The continent's oldest desert has been gifted a sound installation featuring the 80's soft rock hit. Now, you can listen to it on repeat at the world's oldest desert. "Hopefully the song will play just as long", he added.

The 1982 track is quadruple platinum, and was the most streamed song in 2017, with over 440m views on YouTube.

Sigh, it used to be that Toto's "Africa" was one of the more obscure hits to appreciate. He told the BBC that the solar batteries will keep the song going forever.

It's a project conceived by Namibian-German artist Max Siedentopf, appropriately titled "Toto Forever".

And while he placed his art in an undisclosed area in the 55-million-year-old desert, he hopes "Africa" plays for another 55 million years.

"I set up a sound installation which pays tribute to probably the most popular song of the last four decades: Toto - Africa", Siedentopf wrote on one of his posts on his unverified Instagram page.

Siedentopf has set up a solar-powered MP3 player and six speakers somewhere in the 81,000 sq km coastal desert, with the artist promising that the famous song will now play "for all eternity".

Most recently, rapper Pitbull and Guyanese-Canadian singer Rhea heavily sampled Africa on their song Ocean To Ocean for the soundtrack to the 2018 superhero film Aquaman.

The artist has included a rather unhelpful map on his website, which has the entire 1,200-mile Namib desert circled in red that indicates the location of the installation. "I think that's a great compliment", he tells BBC News.
