The world pays tribute as Andy Murray announces his retirement from tennis

Grantchester season 4 cast who stars with James Norton in the new series

Former world No. 1 tennis player Andy Murray fought back tears while announcing his plan to retire this year. "If he doesn't feel that the injury can become better, he has probably done the right thing for his mental health".

Serena Williams is returning to the Australian Open for the first time since welcoming her daughter Alexis Olympia.

"I didn't arrive to that point".

"I think it's a pretty open tournament and I think an outsider can win it", the Australian great said at the weekend.

Comparing it to his own retirement, Henman added: "After Wimbledon in 2007 I started on the American hard-court swing and felt for the first time I was making up the numbers".

Federer has credited improvements in travel, in nutrition and in life balance for giving modern tennis players the ability to extend their careers well into their 30s. He successfully defended the title a year ago, his 20th major.

For here is the dichotomy that is Murray - his dogmatic desire to compete and for self-improvement has driven him to heights that no other modern British player can lay a glove on; however perhaps that work ethic, the sacrifices he made in the pursuit of self-improvement, has worn his body down to cut his career prematurely short.

However, force of will can only take Murray so far now.

"That's who he is, and that's one thing that we love about him. Our generation, everyone is more than 30s".

"Amazing. That was incredible, thank you so so much to everyone that came out tonight", Murray said after being swept along on a wave of vociferous support.

"Of course, I hope that he can play a good Australian Open and he can keep playing beyond that, really finish the way he wants to at Wimbledon", said 20-time Grand Slam champion, who begins his Australian Open title defence Monday against Denis Istomin.

Russian rising star, 10th seed Karen Kachanov also reached the second round of the 2019 Australian Open, defeating Peter Gojowczyk of Germany in four sets. Federer has a night match against Denis Istomin on the same center court. "We shared moments in my academy".

"He has put that through in the way he has voiced his opinions and the way he has tackled some questions and issues that have arisen and I think everybody has always been very appreciative of him and how he has stood up for the women's side of the game".
