Ocasio-Cortez Criticized After Failing to Provide Workers’ Compensation Coverage

Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Greg Walden and ranking member Frank Pallone speak during the markup of the the American Health Care Act the Republican replacement to Obamacare on Capitol Hill in Washington

There is a stark contrast between Ocasio-Cortez's style and freshman congressman Dan Crenshaw's (R-Texas) as both of their names have been in the media several times.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's journey to Washington began in the Bronx, N.Y., where she was born to Puerto Rican parents.

Democratic leaders were also frustrated that Ocasio-Cortez criticized their new set of House rules on Twitter in the first week of the new Congress, Politico reported.

Last week, a conservative activist released an old video of Ocasio-Cortez dancing in college, apparently in an homage to the '80s classic The Breakfast Club, in an effort to humiliate the newly-sworn-in Congresswoman.

Some lawmakers are trying to convince Ocasio-Cortez to use her influence to unite Democrats, while others have warned her that she's headed for a lonely tenure in Congress if she treats her more moderate colleagues as enemies, the report said.

Recently Ocasio-Cortez told Politico that she wasn't interested in backing progressive candidates against incumbent Democrats, insisting that she's "focused on my job".

According to the NYDN, a "Democratic campaign veteran scoffed that "it's not a great look" for Ocasio-Cortez that her campaign received a fine for not carrying workers' compensation coverage".

But some Democratic lawmakers believe she will eventually come around to supporting the party line. "People want to see results". She's pro-labor, pro-equality, supports taxing the ultra-rich to pay for vital government programs and infrastructure, and champions the working class and minorities.

Instead, the open downstate NY slot on the House Ways and Means Committee went to a moderate Democrat, Long Island Rep. Tom Suozzi, a former CPA, attorney and county executive.

"She's new here, feeling her way around", added Rep. Kurt Schrader, D-Ore.

Her new chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, told supporters during a November conference call that 'we gotta primary folks'.

"People are afraid of her", said one senior Democratic aide.
