Bernie Sandersapologized Thursday for "unacceptable" sexual harassment that occurred on his 2016 presidential campaign, directly addressing an issue that could weigh on the senator's potential 2020 White House bid.
A top aide for Bernie Sanders is being accused of sexual misconduct during his time in the Vermont senator's 2016 presidential campaign.
"When we talk about ending sexism, and ending all forms of discrimination, those beliefs can not just be words, " Sanders said.
Sanders' comments follow a Politico report that a former Sanders adviser, Robert Becker, had assaulted a female subordinate.
Becker denied the allegations saying they were "at odds with my recollection of a late evening filled with many hugs and kisses and tears and conversations about what's next".
Bernie Sanders's 2016 presidential campaign has been accused of sexual misconduct against a female staffer.
At the time the woman, who was in her 20s and wishes to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation from supporters of Sanders and Becker, chose not to report the incident because the campaign was over.
Allegations that male members of his campaign had harassed and discriminated against female campaign workers have been circulating for weeks as the senator weighs a potential second presidential run.
"I was little bit busy running around the country trying to make the case", Sanders told CNN on January 2. Our standards, our procedures, our safeguards were clearly inadequate, ' he added. It must be a reality in our daily lives.
The People for Bernie Sanders and Organizing for Bernie, political action committees unaffiliated with a possible Sanders campaign, announced on Thursday that the 400 events prove there is already "an army of community led organizers already ramped up to put him miles ahead of other candidates in the 2020 race".
