He said the 911 lines were not affected, but the internet was down at the dispatch centre and phone services also were spotty. Finally, late Thursday night, the company said its engineers had identified "a network element that was impacting customer services." and was working to restore service.

What happened: On Thursday, CenturyLink customers nationwide reported experiencing outages of their internet coverage, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.

Technical problems at a Louisiana-based service provider Friday disrupted 911 access in multiple states across the country - including MA, officials said.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai called the outage "completely unacceptable, and its breadth and duration are particularly troubling", in a statement Friday.

Emergency 911 services in some U.S. states have gone down yesterday and today due to a massive outage reported at several CenturyLink data centers. "We apologize for any inconvenience this is causing residents trying to reach departments", Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski tweeted Thursday afternoon.

"After pushing the information to all other methods we chose to send the message via EAS (Emergency Alert System) and WEA (Wireless Emergency Alerts) to ensure everyone was aware of the outage", CRESA said in a press release Friday morning. The company pledged to fix the issue by 1 a.m. PT on Friday but issues persisted throughout the morning.

The commission's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau will investigate the cause and effect of the outage, he said.

Idaho Emergency Office Management Director Brad Richy says he didn't receive any reports of 911 service failures, but some state offices lost phone service.
