Social Media Erupts Over New Instagram Update

Your Instagram feed now scrolls sideways for no good reason

Instead of scrolling up and down to view content, it forced users to tap left or right, utilizing a horizontal, Stories-like approach.

Within minutes the test was rolled back, and the head of Instagram explained that the broad release had been a mistake. Should be fixed now.

"Sorry about that", tweeted Adam Mosseri, Instagram's VP of Product, who started his job a few months ago.

Many social media users weren't happy about the abrupt change and took to Twitter to voice their complaints.

American internet celebrity and make-up artist Jeffree Star posted: "B*tch... this #instagramupdate nearly ruined my morning!"

Reactions to Instagram's unpopular update came through thick and fast on Twitter.

'Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today, ' an Instagram spokesperson told Dailymail.com.

A number of us at Engadget have the new feed orientation as well, though for some people, the new feature hasn't yet reached all of their accounts. "We apologize for any confusion", the company said, reported the publication. "Introducing a new way to move through posts", a pop-up message introducing the new feature reads.

Instead of scrolling up and down like you normally would, users now have to scroll left to right.

Instagram has not publicly announced the change, and Instagram users at Business Insider with both iPhone and Android devices have not received the update.

'The Instagram feed is sideways now and I can't figure out how to post to my Story!' Lorenz tweeted Thursday morning.
