The fiancé of a 29-year-old United States woman who vanished almost a month ago from a small mountain town was arrested on Friday on murder charges in her disappearance, though investigators have yet to locate the young mother's body, police said.

This booking photo provided by the Teller County Sheriff's office shows Patrick Frazee, the fiance of missing Colorado woman Kelsey Berreth, who was arrested Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at his home in the community of Florissant, Colo.

Patrick Frazee was taken into custody about 7 a.m. local time and was charged with murder and solicitation to commit murder, Woodland Park Police Chief Miles De Young said at a press conference.

Frazee's arrest warrant, served at his home outside Woodland Park, has been sealed, Colorado judicial spokesman Rob McCallum said.

Berreth's disappearance was officially labeled a missing-person investigation until Friday, but De Young did call her disappearance "suspicious" last week and pleaded with Frazee to "sit down with investigators".

When interviewed by police, Frazee allegedly said that he last saw Berreth when he picked up their 1-year-old daughter on November 22. However, De Young said that officials have not spoken directly to Frazee and were communicating through Loew. At that time, they said they had not ruled out Frazee as a suspect. He did not specify what evidence led to this conclusion or give any possible motives, but he did say that more arrests are possible. While authorities initially cautioned that it could be a "false ping", De Young has now said that the information was accurate.

District Attorney Dan May says formal charges are pending and could take as long as 10 days to file.

Court documents are now sealed in the case.

Cheryl Berreth spoke by phone twice to her daughter on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22 - the last day anyone saw Kelsey before the 29-year-old flight instructor from Woodland Park, Colorado, vanished.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Woodland Park Police Department at 719-687-9262 or the Colorado Bureau of Investigation at 719-647-5999.

Friday's arrest came after police urged Frazee to speak directly with investigators and after a search of his high country ranch property as well as Berreth's own townhome in Woodland Park.

Kelsey's daughter is in protective custody, police said.

Police said the only signs of Berreth were some text messages from her cellphone.

Frazee's attorney, Jeremy Loew, said last week his client "continues to cooperate with law enforcement in the missing person investigation". "She's reliable, considerate and honest".

The Woodland Park Police Department was expected to release mugshots.

"She's not the kind that runs off", Berreth's mother said at a police news conference on December 10.
