Matthew Dellavedova traded back to Cleveland Cavaliers

George Hill presents

Milwaukee trades Matthew Dellavedova, John Henson, a first-round pick and a second-round pick to Cleveland.

The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly trading the out-of-favour point guard back to Cleveland, where he was part of the 2016 National Basketball Association championship-winning Cavaliers. Washington sends forward Jason Smith, cash considerations and removes the protections placed on the 2020 second-round pick traded in the Jodie Meeks deal to Milwaukee, and a 2022 second-round draft pick to Cleveland.

Washington's tax bill will drop from $14.49 million to $9.79 million by trading out Smith's $5.45 million salary for Dekker's $2.68 million salary. Drafted by Houston in the first round (18th overall) of the 2015 NBA Draft, he has played for three NBA teams including the Rockets, Clippers and Cavaliers.

The original trade including Cleveland forward Sam Dekker, but he has been rerouted to Washington.

Having joined the team at last season's trade deadline, Hill appeared in only 37 regular season games with the Cavaliers.

Smith, 32, signed a three-year, $15.7 million that summer as Washington sought to upgrade its frontcourt. Now in his sixth National Basketball Association season, Dellavedova has averaged 5.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 341 games.

Dekker, 24, averaged 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.2 steals in nine games (five starts) for the Cavaliers this season. He averaged 3.7 points in 12 games this season. Milwaukee also receives power forward Jason Smith in the trade.

For a team that may be playing competitive basketball but not seeing the results in wins, one of the best ways to keep Cavs fans engaged is through actions like these by putting fan favorites on the court. He's played only 12 games in the season and has averaged eight minutes per night. He has been out most of this season with a wrist injury. Dekker is now dealing with a sprained ankle that has sidelined him for a month, but he was converting on 38.4 percent of his 3-point attempts before the injury. Dellavedova was a member of the Cavaliers' 2016 championship team and averaged 7.5 points per game, 2.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists that season.

The 19-year-old will also be benefitted by being able to go against the Australian during practices, something that All-Star guard Kyrie Irving thrived on as a teammate of Dellavedova's. Korver was traded to the Jazz for Alec Burks and a second rounder.
