Ajax Star De Jong To Sign £75m Deal

Frenkie de Jong

Now it appears he is going to miss out on another target - De Telegraaf are reporting that De Jong has made a decision to sign for PSG, in a deal worth €75 million.

It still seems that de Jong himself would actually be keen on joining either Barça or Man City, telling The Guardian just this week how much he admires the style of play.

The news coming out of the Netherlands late on Thursday night will come as a big blow to Manchester City and Barcelona, both of whom had targeted the prodigious 21-year-old.

If PSG are willing to pay the asking price, it would be a hard offer to reject for Ajax, who recently posted a picture of De Jong and De Ligt (whose price they have set at 65 million euros) on their twitter page with the message: "They're not going to Spain".

"I want to finish this season well with Ajax", he said.

Pep Guardiola has reportedly been left seething after learning that Manchester City will miss out on the signing of Ajax wonderkid Frenkie de Jong.

The club's business director Marc Overmars has confirmed that the two sides are in talks, but said nothing has yet been sealed and other clubs are also after the youngster. "I do not know yet what I'm going to do, leave or stay another year, in principle everything is still open and nothing has been decided yet".

"Everything is still an option and we will see what happens".

Convincing De Jong might take one hell of a speech.

Barça and Man City may have little choice but to move quickly to match PSG if they do not wish to lose out.

De Jong has been compared to Dutch great Johan Cruyff in terms of his talent, even if his specific skillset means he is not the same kind of player.
