Saudi Crown Prince meets Argentina's President on the sidelines of G20 summit

Theresa May wants meeting with Saudi prince to call for 'transparent' probe into killing of Jamal Khashoggi

The prime minister said he also spoke to Prince Salman about the Canadian-Saudi diplomatic spat sparked by Canada's criticism in August of the conservative kingdom's imprisonment of human rights activists.

The clip was partially inaudible and the context of the exchange was not entirely clear.

In front of journalists and television cameras, Macron vented his concerns over the murder of Khashoggi, appearing to say "I am worried" during the awkward encounter.

Macri has said accusations that Prince Mohammed was involved in Khashoggi s death could be discussed by world leaders during the two-day summit.

But he added: "I have read every piece of intelligence that is in the possession of the United States government, and when it is done, when you complete that analysis, there's no direct evidence linking [Prince Mohammed] to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi".

A senior White House official said the two exchanged pleasantries.

But Donald Trump has largely stood by the crown prince, defying intense pressure from lawmakers to impose broader sanctions on Saudi Arabia.

Until Khashoggi's killing, Trump had been an unabashed fan of the prince as the young leader who portrays himself as a reformist consolidated power and detained prominent Saudis, with the heir apparent forging a particularly close relationship with Ivanka's husband Jared Kushner.

French President Emmanuel Macron stepped up pressure on Salman over Khashoggi's killing by telling him worldwide experts need to be involved in the murder investigation.

Mattis and Pompeo urged senators to support the USA involvement in the war in Yemen, including assistance to Saudi Arabia.

On Friday, May's office said the prime minister stressed to Salman the importance of ensuring those responsible for the "appalling murder" of Khashoggi are held to account. The Prime Minister told bin Salman there needed to "be full transparency about exactly what had happened" following the death of Jamal Khashoggi.

But there seems to be a contradiction in asking Saudi's de facto ruler for such an investigation, unless she is already presuming his innocence.

"For me, it is obvious that this is an issue that concerns not just Canada but a number of our North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies", Trudeau said Saturday.
