CAF: Cameroon won’t host 2019 African cup of nations tourney

Cameroon stripped of 2019 African Cup of Nations in June

The hosting of the AFCON was part of the agenda in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Extraordinary Executive Committee meeting held in Accra, Ghana on November 30.

"I am not sure Cameroon is ready to host the AFCON", Ahmad told KweseESPN.

And the decision was taken in an extraodrinary meeting on Friday afternoon where CAF president Ahmed Ahmed faced the media to explain why the decision has been taken to put the tournament back on the market for official bids.

"... It will communicate openly and transparently on the process and subsequent decision", the press statement from the continent's football ruling body revealed.

"Caf reiterates that Cameroon remains a serious candidate to organize a future edition of Afcon, and acknowledges that Cameroon has mobilized significant resources and worked tirelessly to host Afcon 2019".

The Football fraternity and fans across the globe are expressing consternation, anger and sisappointment that Cameroon which has won the cup sereral time would prove unfit to host the tournament.

Morocco is the favourite to take over the hosting of the expanded 24-team tournament, which is being held from June 15-July 13.

Morocco, who were unsuccessful in their bid for the 2026 Fifa World Cup, are most likely to replace Cameroon as hosts.

Aside delays as per reports of inspection teams within the last 18 months, security in the country is said to be at high risk.

Increasing the field of the Nations Cup and switching its hosting to mid-year were among reforms announced last year in a major overhaul of the African game.
