Jarryd Hayne arrested over sexual assault allegations

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg has refused to speculate on Jarryd Hayne's playing future after the former Parramatta star was charged over an alleged sexual assault.

Hayne left Ryde police station and got into a auto with a woman at 1.30am.

Channel Seven revealed some of the details of what police will allege took place when the matter is before Burwood Local Court on December 10.

The woman, who says she suffered injuries in the alleged september 30 incident, was interviewed by the National Rugby League's integrity unit before the matter was referred to police.

In December 2017, a woman identified only as "JV" filed a civil complaint in California alleging Hayne raped her at his house in San Jose after she met him during an alcohol-fuelled night out at the Willow Den Bar in December 2015.

"Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad arrested a 30-year-old man at Ryde police station just after 4pm", he said.

The woman, identified only as JV, reports the incident to police, but prosecutors refuse to charge Hayne because of insufficient evidence. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars if convicted.

Jarryd Hayne allegedly bit his victim.

The NRL said its integrity unit "was made aware of the situation recently and has been monitoring the situation after informing NSW police of the incident".

Hayne had finished his current contract at the Parramatta Eels on October 31, however the club said they were continuing to provide welfare support.

He is now without an NRL club after his season ended with the Parramatta Eels.

"Given he has been charged and it is a serious police matter I am not going to be making any comment on Jarryd".

Welfare officers from the Eels are understood to have been in contact with Hayne about the allegations which have rattled him. Hayne, a two-time Dally M Medallist, is one of the biggest names in the NRL and had a magical run to help the Eels to the 2009 grand final.

He also represented Fiji in rugby union sevens and attempted a career in the National Football League in 2014, but experienced only fleeting success during a tough first season with the San Francisco 49ers.
