Elton John takes us on his musical career journey and reveals his most beloved Christmas gift to date - a piano from his mother and grandmother.

Set to John's hit Your Song, the ad begins in the present day and works backwards chronologically through Elton's life until the moment he receives the "piano that changed his life forever".

Elton John's first piano, a gift at Christmas according to the John Lewis advert.

The new John Lewis Christmas advert illustrates one man's lifelong love affair with the piano - and our cockles are truly warmed.

Each year the retailer brings its A-game with something to tug at those festive heart strings, and just when you thought it had peaked and could do no better, the LADs only go and rope in ELTON JOHN.

Scenes show him on private jets and playing stadium shows but the viewer is reminded that he started playing in pubs, and even in his school recital.

It opens with Sir Elton in a dressing gown gently playing the song's opening notes, before taking a back step into some of the biggest moments of his career. This will presumedly include him receiving his piano for Christmas, as shown in the John Lewis ad. Especially for fans of the legendary Elton John.

In response to such speculation, John Lewis recently said: "The speculation in recent months around the costs associated with this year's ad is wildly inaccurate and our total spend is similar to previous years".

Sure, John Lewis knows what they're doing with a stellar celebrity cameo - there is now a dedicated section on their site for piano-based products.

Well, this year's ad has finally dropped and it is a treat.

Beyond the via, John Lewis says this will be its "most ambitious" experiential Christmas campaign to-date, with customers able to experience the ad themselves in its Oxford Street store.
