Apple Announces the New MacBook Air

All-new MacBook Air takes flight

Announced earlier this morning at Apple's October event - the new air is looking more attractive than ever, and has a lot going on under the hood too. T2 also features an always-on processor that enables "Hey Siri", which lets you make requests to Siri with just your voice for things like finding files or opening an app.

The once-popular MacBook Air was last updated in early 2015 with Intel's fifth-generation Core chips and graphics.

The no. 1 feature customers asked for in a MacBook Air and have received in this version is a retina display, Lagrove said. Pre-orders today, ships November 7.

This means the Air includes the same keyboard as the 2018 MacBook Pro, which features quieter key travel and more resistance to dust. SD card is gone, much to my chagrin, but the 3.5mm headphone jack remains, and there are two USB-C / TB-3 ports on the left side. If, however, the previous MacBook Air's appeal was grounded in that balance of portability, functionality, and most importantly price, then what will be the reaction to the new tag? Apple says that the new MacBook Air can run a 5K display and supports eGPU as well. The new MacBook Air's external enclosure is 100% recycled aluminum.

The 2018 MacBook Air has a 13.3-inch Retina display with 2732-by-1536 resolution, and the bezels around the screen are 50% slimmer than the old model.

Apple has also included TouchID for fingerprint unlock on the laptop, and a T2 security chip for a secure boot process. Overall, the new MacBook Air's display seems roughly on par with the 2017 MacBook Pro in terms of overall vibrancy and colour.

With the way Apple has stylised its logo for the media invites to this event, we have a fairly good idea that creativity will play a major part today.

And the hardware is capable of delivering up to 13-hours of iTunes video playback on a single charge.

And that display is pushed pretty much to the edges of the Air's lid, yet still leaves space for a FaceTime camera. The MagSafe charger from the older MacBook Air is now gone. Storage-wise, it supports up to 1.5TB SSD that is 60 percent faster than the predecessor.

The base configuration of the New MacBook Air features the 1.6GHz Core i5 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. You could still easily get by merely word processing and web browsing on this laptop.

The price starts at $1199.00 which isn't the $999 the previous generation eventually dropped down to, but also isn't as high as the original started at.
