Moment Saudi prince shakes hands with Khashoggi's son ignites outrage online

Washington Post writer Jamal Khashoggi met with Saudi Prince Khalid bin Salman, who is the crown prince's brother and also serves as the Saudi ambassador to the US, at the Saudi Embassy in Washington in late 2017 or early 2018, NBC News reported.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said the killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul was "one of the worst cover-ups" in history.

Erdogan made the remarks in a much anticipated speech about Khashoggi's killing - remarks timed to coincide with Saudi Arabia's high-profile Future Investment Initiative summit, dubbed "Davos in the Desert".

Even though the death of Jamal Khashoggi took place in the Saudi consulate, considered sovereign Saudi territory according to global law, the Turkish president made the case that the investigation into the killing and the prosecution of the individuals can not be carried out by those linked with the perpetrators.

He also has said the USA shouldn't cancel weapon sales to the kingdom in response to the killing of Khashoggi.

President Trump, who has made Saudi Arabia a central pillar of his Middle East strategy, has grown increasingly skeptical of the kingdom's claim that Khashoggi's death was a "rogue operation" that occurred after a fistfight broke out in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

"I want to send them a message that they can not do this as long as there a king named Salman bin Abdulaziz and a crown prince named Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia, and a president in Turkey named Erdogan".

"Bad deal. Should have never been thought of", he explained.

"We're getting facts in from multiple places and once those facts come in, the secretary of state will work with our national security team to help us determine what we want to believe, what we think is credible and what we think is not credible", Kushner told CNN.

In his address to the Turkish AK Party parliamentarians, Erdogan left no room for doubt that Khashoggi's death was a pre-planned and premeditated affair.

Saudi Arabia - seen as the linchpin of the Trump administration's strategy to counter Iran's influence in the Middle East - is a top buyer of USA military equipment.

Erdogan demanded that whoever ordered the killing of Khashoggi "be brought to account", and that the 18 officials already arrested by Saudi Arabia in connection with the killing stand trial in Istanbul.

"At the end of the day, many American companies have stakeholders and shareholders to which they need to be very sensitive".

With more than three weeks since Khashoggi disappeared, and the Saudi failure to produce a body - the Turkish authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the body of Khashoggi remains in Turkey.

Trump allies and advisers have encouraged him to take a tougher stance against the oil-rich monarchy, saying that Congress would fill the vacuum and punish Saudi Arabia either way.

"These (15) people, from whom did they get orders.?" Then they said he died in a fistfight in the consulate.

Turkish investigators last week searched the Saudi consulate and consul general's residence in Istanbul as they hunted for clues to Khashoggi's fate.

"We opted not to answer anyone on this particular conference", said SNC-Lavalin spokesman Nicolas Ryan, referring to numerous inquiries from reporters.

"I know that when the CIA director returns, she will be briefing the president, myself and our entire team on what the Turks have assembled", Pence said about CIA Director Gina Haspel's trip to Turkey.

But in the forum's vast and ornate auditorium, thousands of people who did attend rose to their feet to applaud the 33-year-old heir whose strong showing underscored his reputation for being bold and assertive.
