CNN Retracts Story of Pipe Bomb Sent to White House

At least one of themwas misaddressed and returned to sender, two law enforcement sources told CNN.

Trump's speech came on the heels of a day full of pleas for civility in America's political discourse as Democrats and progressives across the country found themselves confronting a barrage of crude package bombs aimed squarely at the president's critics and rivals.

"It appears majority if not all of them have gone through the mail", an official told the paper.

The FBI said a package, "similar in appearance to the others" found this week, was addressed to Booker and located in Florida.

Law enforcement officials told The Associated Press that the devices, containing timers and batteries, were not rigged like booby-trapped package bombs that would explode upon opening. Kamala Harris, D-California, was also evacuated after "suspicious packages" were found near the building, but they were not addressed to the senator or her office, a spokeswoman tweeted. That means FBI investigators can "look for patterns such as the device, the technical expertise, the method of mailing, a whole host of great, rich forensic evidence that can be gathered".

The packages were sent in manila envelopes with bubble wrap, marked with computer-printed address labels.

The U.S. Secret Service intercepted the bomb that was addressed to Hillary Clinton at the Chappaqua, New York, home she shares with former President Bill Clinton, and another that was sent to Obama at his home in Washington.

"I've seen the guy maybe 80 times and I never said a word to him because I had a feeling he was a little off", said Weiss, a 56-year-old building superintendent who has lived in the neighbourhood for eight years. CNN President Jeff Zucker sent a message to staffers saying the package was intercepted at a post office, and he reiterated that "all mail to CNN domestic offices is being screened at off-site facilities".

New York Gov. Cuomo said the two suspicious devices found in New York City shouldn't stop people from going about their business as normal. The Secret Service, however, later said it had only intercepted the two packages intended for Obama and Clinton and called reports of a package headed for the White House "incorrect". "Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!"

The package was received within the past few days, said police. Holder's package ended up rerouted and delivered to the Wasserman Schultz return address. Shortly after, the USA media outlet CNN reported that a suspicious device found at its offices in NY has been removed from the site.

The powder was tested and determined to have been harmless, according to a law enforcement official.

The president revoked Brennan's security clearance after the ex-CIA chief, a veteran intelligence official in Democratic and Republican administrations, lambasted Trump's Russian Federation summit performance as 'nothing short of treasonous'.

The incidents have prompted federal authorities to launch a full-scale criminal investigation to determine the source of the packages and identify those responsible, the Secret Service added. On Friday, new packages addressed to New Jersey Sen.

In Miami, also late Thursday, police sent a bomb squad to a US Postal Service facility to assist federal agents "as part of the ongoing investigation into suspicious packages" found elsewhere, the Miami-Dade Police said on Twitter.

"He should not be beating the tom-toms of anger and animosity and war", said the former Central Intelligence Agency chief, whose security clearance was revoked by Trump after he criticized the president's summit earlier this year with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We're extremely angry, upset, unhappy about what we witnessed this morning, and we will get to the bottom of it", he said. They noted the president's recent praise of a GOP congressman who body-slammed a reporter, among other Trump statements.

But Trump skipped his usual attack on what he calls the "fake news" media for not showing enough of his crowds.
