YouTube hit by global outage, company says fixing issues soon

YouTube videos are displaying a server error notice

CNET reports users who tried to access videos or upload content were greeted with an error message.

YouTube did not say what caused the outage.

Others were able to see YouTube's homepage but could not open any videos, The Guardian reports.

Most of the world's Internet users lost access to YouTube for half an hour on Sunday causing a mini-meltdown and alarming users.

The issue has now been resolved. YouTube servers went down at around 4 am in Kampala.

The widespread outage affected YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube Music, and the Google-owned firm said it was looking into the issue after complaints poured in from around 1:30am. The YouTube team however was quick to put out a tweet acknowledging the outage and promised that they were working on the problem. "We apologize for the problems you are facing".

Last month, photo sharing application Instagram was not working, leaving millions of its users to unable to log on to their accounts.

Users took to social media to confirm that their location was also experiencing the same access issues. "Thanks for sticking with us". The outage apparently began at 9 p.m. ET and services seemed to have restored after 10:30 p.m. ET. We are trying to fix this malfunction and we will give you information as soon as this malfunction goes away.

Team YouTube said the service was back up by 3.45am today. It is rather rare for Google services to go down, but not unheard of.

The inability to log on to the Web's second-most visited site, sent large numbers of people to alternative sources of video.
